The Anti Corruption crusader’s three day proposed fasting, at Mumbai ended abruptly. The 74-year-old Gandhian sat for fast at the MMRDA ground, in the last week of last year but in a sudden move withdrew from the fast on the third day itself. There were lot controversies over the withdrawal of the fast. His followers say health of the Gandhian played a spoil sport to the event but media call it lack of support. The media quotes that the estimate of people at the venue varied, from 4,000 to 10,000. This was in sharp contrast to over 30,000-40,000 that poured in Ramlila Maidan in August. The crusader’s effort was to make a stronger Lokpal bill in contrary to what had come up for debate in the Lok Sabha.
But as per media reports at any given point of time not more than 3,000-3,500 members were available at the venue. The India Against Corruption (IAC) members claim that over the day around 30,000 attended the meeting. But the member in-charge of Anna Rasoi, kitchen serving free food, estimates a turnout of 20,000 people including media persons, organizers and whoever used a plate.
Replying to a question by a reporter on the poor turnout, Hazare said, “I have no power, no money, yet people come. You will see at the time of elections how people rise to the occasion.”
If we scan the media regularly since then, the Gandhian has been constantly under medical care. But on the whole this only shows that the old man is risking his life for people who have no time to support a cause for their benefits. Please extend your support to the Gandhian and post your comments in support. Our prayers will definitely give him encouragement.(Sourced from info highway- AarKayGee)
