In a novel initiative by the Tihar prison authorities, who organized a recruitment drive for the inmates for the fourth time last month. The drive foresaw 142 prisoners get job with good pay packages. 142 inmates got jobs with salary tags ranging between Rs.7,000 to Rs.30,000. Remarkably, 13 of them were women. The maximum earners were Shahil Gulati, Hemant Kumar and Mohammed Ashif. `They were hired by Career Craft,’ said Tihar spokesperson Sunil Gupta. At this moment one saying by the father of the nation is to be remembered, `hate the crime and not the criminal.’
Five companies - Career Graft, Future Mason, Vedanta Foundation, Frontline and Ikaya Global - interviewed the inmates . The drive, organized by Vedanta Group, also saw participation from inmates of Rohini Jail. Frontline, which is into assets management and security, hired the maximum number - 60, while Ikaya Global, Career Crafts, Future Mason and Vedanta Foundation extended job offers to 21, 22, 14 and 25 inmates.
Globally, India ranks 5th in prison population. More than 4 lakh prisoners are lodged in nearly 1336 prisons in India. The reforms and the rehabilitation of the people in prisons have been discussed on multiple platforms.
