Pathetic state of Jarawas: Food for naked dance

AarKay

The nation stooped down in dismay as the news of the way the Jarawas were exploited by urban public came to light. Neglected by the government and exploited by the men in uniform was the fate of the primitive tribe, living in the Andaman Islands for thousands of years. Recently the tour companies have already encroached jungle to run safaris for tourists. The wealthy tourists pay hefty amount to local police to make tribe women naked. A video footage was put up on the internet in which the tribal ladies were lured to dance for food.

The Guardian further writes: This kind of video is the trophy tourists’ dream of when they set off into the jungles of the Andaman Islands “on safari”. The beauty of the forest functions merely as a backdrop. The goal of the trip is to seek out the Jarawa, a reclusive tribe only recently contacted, which is taking the first tentative steps towards a relationship with the outside world…
…The role of the police is to protect tribes’ people from unwelcome and intrusive outsiders. But on this occasion the officer had accepted a £200 bribe to get the girls to perform.

Terming the incident "obnoxious and disgusting", Tribal Affairs Minister K.P. Singh Deo told Times Now television channel: "It is disgraceful if something like this is happening."It ... cannot be pardoned. It deserves exemplary punishment," he added. Law and Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said strict action should be taken against those responsible for forcing the tribal women to dance. Hope the government does something to these people and takes care of their needs. At least immediate measures must be taken for preventing such exploitation of our brethren. Found & returned 23 lakhs, undeterred honesty

AarKay

A Railway cleaning worker Seema Roy working at the Malda railway station in West Bengal is a person who is worth lots of appreciation. Probably in her shoes most of us would not be as honest as her. Mrs Roy was working her way of cleaning the first class compartment of the Gour Express, which runs from Sealdah to Malda.  In her daily routine the lady found a bag stacked, with currency notes amounting to Rs. 23 lakhs.

In spite of no security at the exit, had she thought she could have walked away scot free, but the lady walked straight to the Govt Railway Police station and handed the bag. The honesty of the lady has to be commended and the authorities plan to send her name for an award. Imagine the 41-year old widow, only earns about Rs 9,000 per month, with two children to fend. Mrs Roy said, `I became nervous, how can someone leave behind such a huge amount of cash? I started shouting on seeing the bag under the seat of the AC first-class compartment. Other cleaners then rushed in. I went to the GRP and handed over the bag. I want the money to reach the person who had left the bag by mistake in the train compartment.’  According to Malda Town rail police, the money would be handed over to a court from where it can be claimed after furnishing proof.

A bidi supplier and construction material trader from Murshidabad Shahjahan Biswas claimed the ownership of the bag. The trader who was overwhelmed with the noble deed of the lady said, he was “grateful” to Mrs Roy. He added “I have come to know that her elder son is unemployed. I am willing to offer him a job in my company and give her a handsome monetary reward. Her act of honesty is rare these days. I will meet the family and thank them,” Shahjahan said.(Sourced from info highway- AarKayGee)
